Specifically, because her situation is not the average of a racial agenda and a gender agenda. Both of those were written with somebody else at the center, and what falls between them lands on her.
Maternal mortality. Black American women die in pregnancy and childbirth at several times the rate of white women, and the gap does not close for the college-educated or the well-insured - which eliminates the explanations usually offered and leaves the one nobody wants to name: she is not believed when she says something is wrong. This is the single most damning fact about how this country treats Black mothers, and no pro-family platform is credible while silent on it.
Health beyond maternity. Later diagnosis and worse outcomes in breast and cervical cancer, in lupus, in cardiac disease, and in fibroids, which affect Black American women at extraordinary rates and are treated as a nuisance rather than as a condition that removes women from work and from fertility.
Wages. The largest earnings gap of any group when measured against the American average, sitting under a household that is frequently carrying children on that single income.
The wealth gap inside the wealth gap. Black American women hold the community's educational advantage and among the lowest median net worth in the country. The degree did not convert. Understanding why is one of the most important economic questions this platform has.
Caregiving. She is disproportionately the one who takes in the grandchild, nurses the parent, and absorbs the cost in career, savings and health, with no policy that recognizes any of it.
Violence and its investigation. Black American women and girls go missing and are searched for less, and are killed at rates the national conversation about violence against women routinely omits.
A gender agenda that treats her interests as identical to those of white women, when the wage data, the health data and the housing data all say otherwise.
A racial agenda that treats her as a supporter of a movement rather than a principal in it, which is what she has usually been handed - the labor of the organizing with the podium given to someone else.
Or the framework described in the accountability chapters, which asks her to identify the Black American man as her adversary. Her adversary is not her husband, her son or her brother. Her adversary is a maternal ward that does not listen, a wage that does not cover the month, and an estate that was never built.
A movement in which she is a principal. Ownership, not only employment. Health care that treats her testimony as evidence. A household with two adults carrying it. Enforced paternity. A wage floor that means the second job is a choice. Childcare priced for a working woman. And an estate with her name on the deed.
That is the proposal. It is the same proposal made to Black American men, arriving through the door of her actual circumstances.
That the specific needs of Black American women must be addressed on a specific and focused basis, because her situation is not the average of a racial agenda and a gender agenda.

Crime is a major issue in our community. The party attacks it at its source - economics, family, child rearing, education, and a system built to rehabilitate.
The party's stated interest is a system weighted toward rehabilitation rather than punishment - because almost everyone it takes eventually comes home.
Across communities, Americans agree the justice system needs serious reform. The party fights the wholesale prosecution of Black American youth.
