Technology: Build It or Be Sold It

Every technological wave so far has been something done to this community. The next one does not have to be.

The pattern to break

Industrial automation, offshoring, the internet, platform consolidation, and now artificial intelligence. In each wave Black Americans have participated overwhelmingly as consumers and as displaced labour, rarely as builders and almost never as owners.

The consequence compounds each cycle, because the returns to owning technology are far larger than the returns to using it, and they arrive faster each time.

The jobs are here now

The highest-paying technical jobs in the United States are being filled substantially by workers brought in from abroad while Black American children sit in public schools that do not teach coding. That is not a talent shortage. It is a training decision made by people who were not asked to explain it.

Article VII's demand that coding be taught in grammar school is a direct response. Not as an elective, not as a club - as a core subject, from the beginning, for everyone.

Owning the infrastructure

The party's technology position mirrors its media and entertainment positions: use is not ownership. The objective is Black American-owned software firms, data infrastructure, payment rails and platforms - the Black Dollar app being the community's first serious asset in that category and deliberately not sold to anyone.

A community that owns a platform sets its rules. A community that only uses platforms lives under rules written elsewhere, and discovers them when they change.

Artificial intelligence, said plainly

AI will displace routine work first, and Black Americans are over-represented in exactly those categories. Pretending otherwise helps no one. The response is to move up the stack quickly - into the trades AI cannot perform, into the technical work that directs it, and into ownership of the businesses that deploy it.

The window for that move is now, and it is not wide.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Black American Party's position on technology?

That Black Americans have participated in every technological wave as consumers and displaced labour rather than builders and owners, and that the priority is coding taught as a core subject and Black American ownership of software, data infrastructure and platforms.

What does the party say about AI and jobs?

That AI displaces routine work first and Black Americans are over-represented in those categories, so the community must move quickly into skilled trades, technical direction and ownership of the firms deploying it.
