Black Americans have never been excluded from the American economy as workers. We built substantial parts of it under conditions no one chose. The exclusion has always been from the levels where decisions are made and wealth is retained: ownership, capital allocation, supply chains, boards, and the professions that advise all three.
So a diversity figure counted at the entry level is not a measure of inclusion. It is a measure of hiring. The two are often confused, usually by people who benefit from the confusion.
Every large firm buys billions in goods and services from other firms. That procurement spending is many times larger than any corporate giving programme, and unlike giving, it is recurring, contractual and unsentimental. A Black American firm on a supplier list has revenue. A Black American firm mentioned in a diversity report has a mention.
The party's position is that supplier diversity is the highest-leverage form of economic inclusion available, and the least discussed - because it is the one that actually transfers money.
Inclusion does not stop at the border. The information age lets a firm in Atlanta sell to a customer in Accra or Sao Paulo without a distributor's permission. Black American producers should be participating in international trade directly, and building commercial relationships across the diaspora as trade, not as sentiment.
That is a different proposition from the political Pan-Africanism this platform is careful about. Trade compounds. Solidarity statements do not.
