Economic Solidarity: The Black American Party Strategy

Article III of the Black American Party platform holds that the dollar earned in our community should circulate in our community. This is how we make that practical rather than aspirational.

Economic solidarity is not a boycott and it is not charity. It is the deliberate routing of ordinary spending through Black American producers, at enough scale and for long enough to compound.

Article III in short

The dollar earned here should circulate here

Economic solidarity is a question of routing, not sacrifice. Nobody is asked to pay more or buy worse — only that ordinary, already budgeted spending be directed, where a competitive option exists, to a Black American producer.

It fails when it is left to memory and goodwill, and works when it is instrumented. That is what the Black Dollar app was built to do.

The essentials

What economic solidarity actually means

Economic solidarity is Article III of the Black American Party platform. The principle is simple: a dollar that is earned in our community and immediately spent outside it does the community no lasting good, while a dollar that changes hands several times inside it becomes payroll, inventory, rent and eventually capital.

This is a question of routing, not of sacrifice. Nobody is asked to pay more or buy worse. The ask is that ordinary, already-budgeted spending — groceries, trades, professional services, repairs, food — be directed, where a competitive option exists, to a Black American producer.

Solidarity fails when it is left to memory and goodwill. It works when it is instrumented: when you can see, at the moment of the decision, which nearby business is owned within the community and whether it has earned the community's confidence. That is what the party built the Black Dollar app to do.

The mechanism

Circulation, velocity and why they compound

Wealth in any community is a function of how many times a dollar turns over before it leaves. Where local ownership is dense, a single dollar of outside income pays several people on its way through; where ownership is thin, it leaves on the first transaction. Article III is a strategy for raising that turnover deliberately.

The Black American Party pairs the principle with three concrete instruments: a directory that makes Black-owned businesses findable, a community-verified standard that makes them accountable, and a members network in which producers refer work to one another directly. Principle, visibility and accountability have to arrive together or none of them holds.

How it works

Economic solidarity in practice

Four mechanisms the Black American Party uses to turn Article III into measurable circulation.

Find

A directory you can act on

The Black Dollar app maps Black-owned businesses by GPS, so the solidarity decision happens at the moment of spending rather than in retrospect.

Verify

A community-verified standard

Green, yellow and red statuses are earned through review, not granted automatically — which is the only thing that keeps a green signal worth anything.

Refer

Producer-to-producer business

Inside the members network, producers hire and supply each other directly. Business-to-business circulation compounds faster than retail spending.

Coordinate

Collective action when warranted

Where a business has earned a red flag through reviewed complaints, the community can act together rather than individually and ineffectually.

Own

Ownership as the end goal

Circulation is a means. The objective of Article III is a denser layer of Black American ownership: more firms, more employers, more capital.

Learn

Financial literacy alongside it

Article V pairs solidarity with sound money and universal financial literacy, so what circulates is also retained.

Solidarity is routing, not sacrifice

The most common objection to economic solidarity is that it asks people to pay more or accept less. It does not. The ask is that already-budgeted spending be routed to a competitive Black American producer where one exists — a decision that costs the buyer nothing and pays the community repeatedly.

Why a rating standard has to be earned

A directory that certifies everyone certifies nothing. The Black Dollar app's green status is granted through review rather than automatically, precisely so that the signal keeps its meaning and the businesses that earn it get real benefit from having done so.

Business-to-business is where velocity lives

Consumer spending is the visible half of economic solidarity and the smaller half. When a Black American contractor buys from a Black American supplier and hires a Black American trade, one dollar of outside revenue turns over three times before it leaves — which is the whole point of Article III.

Solidarity without literacy leaks

Circulation raises income; it does not automatically build wealth. Article V of the platform pairs solidarity with sound money and financial literacy so that what the community earns is also kept, invested and passed on.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is economic solidarity in the Black American Party platform?

Economic solidarity is Article III of the Black American Party platform: the principle that the dollar earned in our community should circulate in our community, through deliberate patronage of Black American producers.

Is economic solidarity the same as a boycott?

No. Economic solidarity is the positive routing of ordinary spending toward Black American producers. Coordinated boycotts are a separate, occasional tool used only where a business has earned a red flag through reviewed complaints.

How does the Black American Party make economic solidarity practical?

Through three instruments: the Black Dollar app directory, a community-verified green/yellow/red standard, and a private members network in which producers refer business to one another directly.

Does economic solidarity mean paying more?

No. The principle asks that already-budgeted spending be directed to a competitive Black American producer where one exists. It is a change of routing, not an increase in cost.

How does a business become GREEN certified?

Certification is granted through a review process rather than automatically, so the green signal stays meaningful and the businesses that earn it benefit from the distinction.

Where does financial literacy fit in?

Article V of the platform pairs economic solidarity with sound money and universal financial literacy, so that income created by circulation is retained, invested and passed to the next generation.
